Who is Prof Dr Abdullah al-Ahsan?
An author of several books, Prof Dr Abdullah al-Ahsan teaches at the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Şehir University Istanbul, Turkey.
An ace academic, Dr al-Ahsan, before coming to Turkey, taught Comparative History in the Department of History and Civilization at International Islamic University Malaysia for a long time. His expertise lies in study of comparative civilizations.
He is known for his academic work documenting the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and addressing crises in the post-colonial Muslim world through study of the relationship between the contemporary Western and Islamic civilizations.
Dr al-Ahsan completed his Bachelors and Masters in Pakistan from University of the Punjab and Quaid-i-Azam University in General Studies and History, respectively. He continued his studies at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, doing a Masters in Islamic Studies, and finally pursued PhD in History from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States.
Dr al-Ahsan has published books, monographs and articles on the relationship between contemporary Islamic and Western civilizations with specific focus on education, politics, science and good governance, Pakistan and Kashmir.
Two of his acclaimed books include "The Organization of the Islamic Conference: Introduction to an Islamic Political Institution" (1988) and "Ummah or Nation: Identity Crisis in Contemporary Muslim Society" (1992).
