
Prof. Dr. Nihat Erdoğmuş graduated from the Department of Psychology at Boğaziçi University in 1992. He received his Master’s degree in Behavioral Sciences from the Faculty of Business Administration at Istanbul University in 1995, and his PhD in Management and Organization from the Institute of Social Sciences at Sakarya University in 1998. He became an Associate Professor in Business Management in 1999 and a Professor in Management and Organization in April 2005. In 2002, he worked as a researcher at the Newcastle Business School of Northumbria University in the United Kingdom. He has held both academic and administrative positions at Sakarya University, Kocaeli University, Istanbul Şehir University, and Yıldız Technical University. Throughout his career, he has served as Institute Director, member of University Executive Board and Senate, member of Faculty Board and Faculty Executive Board, as well as chair and member of Strategic Planning and Quality Commissions. He has also supported the establishment and development of university career centers. In addition to his academic and administrative duties, he has provided consultancy in education, research, and institutionalization to numerous private sector organizations, public institutions, and NGOs, has led various projects in his field of expertise.
His academic research areas include career management, change management and organizational development, management psychology, NGOs, and higher education administration. He has authored numerous national and international books, articles, and conference papers in his field. Among his notable works are Career in Theory and Practice, Voluntary and Professional Work in Non-Governmental Organizations, Family Businesses: Management Succession and Preparing the Next Generation, Business Ethics: Foundations and Applications (Editor, with Ö. Torlak and Kübra Tiryaki), and Corporate Governance Handbook for NGOs (Editor, with Z. Sayın). He authored the report Higher Education in the Türkiye of the Future, as well as the research report titled The Structuring of Research Universities: Opportunities and Challenges. Under the TÜBİTAK 1001 program, he led the projects titled “Factors Affecting the Development and Innovation Performance of Family Businesses in Turkiye” and “The Process and Outcomes of Temporal and Spatial Relocation of Businesses in Istanbul’s Historical Peninsula.”
Between 2011 and 2014, he served as an Advisor to the President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). He contributed to the development of the higher education information management system. He was a Member of the Board of Directors at Anadolu Agency (AA), where he led institutionalization and internationalization projects. He also worked as a
consultant on projects related to the development of human resources and career management in the public sector at the Presidential Human Resources Office. At TÜBİTAK, he served as a member of various committees. He continues to serve as an evaluator at the Higher Education Quality Council. He is also a member of the TÜBA Working Group on Science and Education Policies.
He served as the founding president of the Civil Society Academy (STA), which works on developing management and institutional capacity in NGOs. He served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Business Ethics, contributing to its establishment and growth. He has actively engaged in numerous NGOs as a volunteer and member. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the ILKE Foundation.
At the beginning of 2025, he led a project on organizational development and human resources in administrative units at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, where he also served as an advisor to the Rector on these matters. As of October 2025, he began working as a faculty member in the Department of Business Administration at the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. He currently serves as Vice Rector at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.
