Prof. Dr. Erhan İÇENER graduated from Middle East Technical University, Department of International Relations, in 2002. He received the UK Government's Chevening Scholarship for his master's studies in European Integration at Queen's University Belfast. He holds an MSSc in European Integration with Distinction and a PhD in European Studies (International Relations) from Queen's University Belfast. Dr. İÇENER's research focuses on European integration, EU enlargement policy, alternatives to EU membership, EU foreign relations, Turkey - EU relations and the Cyprus issue. He has authored articles published in international refereed journals such as Southeast European and Black Sea Studies, Journal of Contemporary European Studies, Perspectives on European Politics and Society, Insight Turkey and bilig: Journal of Social Sciences of the Turkic World and as book chapters. Dr. İÇENER also contributes to many national and international journals as a referee.
Dr. İÇENER has worked in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University since 2017. He was appointed as Associate Professor in 2018 and Professor in 2023. Dr. İÇENER served as the Vice Chair of the Department of Political Science and International Relations between 2018 and 2020 and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences between 2018 and 2024. He continues to act as the Chair of the Department of Political Science and International Relations and the Director of the Graduate Education
Institute, where he was appointed in 2020 and 2022, respectively. As of May 2024, Dr. İÇENER is appointed as a Vice President.
Prof. Dr. Erhan İÇENER is married and has two children.
